Electronic On-Board Recorders (EOBRs)
In the Spring of 2009, the Council of Deputy Ministers of Transportation directed the Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators (CCMTA) to explore issues related to an EOBR mandate and report back with recommendations in the fall of 2010.
A discussion paper was prepared to consult with key stakeholders and the issues related to development of a national standard mandating the use of EOBRs in commercial vehicles in Canada.
At this stage, the paper is not a comprehensive analysis or a policy document; it is designed to guide stakeholder input. The final report, with its recommendations, will be written after the input has been analyzed.
Feedback Needed
The discussion paper presents key considerations associated with EOBRs. The CCMTA Project Group is looking for feedback with respect to issues such as compliance, data requirements and implementation, and how they apply to your business or area of responsibility.
The paper includes a brief discussion on each issue and concludes with some questions to guide your input. Please use the questions as a guideline to respond on whichever issue(s) you wish, but do not be restricted by them.
How to Respond
OBAC is preparing a formal response to the CCMTA Project Group and welcomes your input. Using the discussion paper as a guide, please send us your comments by e-mail as soon as possible and we will include your concerns in our remarks.
You may also send your remarks directly to the CCMTA Project Group by e-mail. Please write “EOBR Project Group” in the subject line. Deadline for comments to CCMTA is Thursday, March 11, 2010.
Submissions can be sent by mail to:
